"Chapel Hill community,
We know that a lot of people rely on federally funded programs, as does the Town and that people are deeply worried by the Trump administration's Executive Order freezing federal funds.
Sowing confusion and disrupting millions of people’s lives in such an irresponsible way is unfathomable to me, as I know it is for many of you.
Right now, I want to let everyone know that, throughout the day today, the Town has been getting updated guidance and new information from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and others about possible impacts to our community. Currently, there seem to be more questions than answers.
I have checked in with Representative Valerie Foushee’s office and our Town Manager. Staff in both offices are assessing the information as it comes in. We are also keeping an eye on the challenges coming forward to this order by Attorney General Jeff Jackson and many others.
We want to make sure we are providing solid information. When we have a clearer picture, we will share that out.
And, of course, we will be working with federal, state, and community partners to advocate and look out for our community – especially those who are most vulnerable.
