The Carrborean is Live!
The Carrborean, a new Carrboro-focused publication, launched in June to track “all of the great happenings in Carrboro in one convenient location.” According to publisher Jennifer Yourkavitch, there were over 200 events in Carrboro in June, and just as many planned for July, but no central source for the public to find those events.
Jennifer has lived in Carrboro for 12 years and was recently laid off from her job with USAID. So she’s in an ideal position to take on this new challenge. The Carrborean will start out as an events calendar, but Jennifer is already making plans for expanding content through a citizen-journalism model to reach into the sub-communities within Carrboro that aren’t typically represented in the media.

We need all the citizen journalism we can get. Wes Platt started Southpoint Access to cover news in the southern part of Durham, but in reality it provides some of the best coverage of all of Durham County. I'm very grateful for it. It's free but with bonus materials for subscribers. https://southpointaccess.news/
